Late last week, a friend of ours’s who owns a game farm and photographic safari business adjacent to South Africa’s renowned Addo Elephant National Park, had two of his white rhino needlessly slaughtered by savages who stole the horns. They used a silenced .375 H&H magnum rifle. A single round was recovered by forensics from one of the carcasses. No words can describe the anger, frustration, and sense of loss he and his family are feeling. As are all of those who have enjoyed the wonderful experience of game viewing with Scotia Safaris. Sadly, little will happen, and it is highly unlikely the culprits will ever be apprehended. Such is the level of corruption and criminality, in the South Africa of today.
